Scope (Target audience) : This course is designed to meet the requirements of STCW section A-II/1 of Chapter II and A-III/1and 6of Chapter III. It is based on the guidelines of IMO Model Course 1.38 and is closely connected to ISM Code. It is designed for officers and officers in charge of a navigational or an engineering watch.

Objective :  After successful completion of the course the trainees will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the importance of preventing pollution to the marine environment, including: concept of sustainable shipping; complexity and diversity of the marine environment; impact of shipping to that environment; role of regulations, procedures and technical installations for protecting the environment; environmental awareness and personal responsibility and role of human element in preventing pollution, proactive measures. Trainees will be competent to demonstrate the intention to fully observe procedures for monitoring ship-board operations and ensure compliance with requirements for environmental protection and act to ensure that the positive environmental reputation of shipping is maintained.
