Scope (Target audience): This course covers all stability aspects of IMO Res. A 1079 (28).
The course is designed for all staff whose activities require a knowledge and understanding of Stability and Ballast Control. Typically this includes Offshore Installation Managers, Barge Supervisors, Ballast Control Operators, Consultants and other personnel.

Objective:    
The purpose of this course is to train candidates to have a good appreciation of the stability of their craft, to understand the inherent dangers and how to combat any loss of buoyancy that may result from damage.

Course content:

  • Introduction
  • Basic units and definitions
  • Use of Loading/Stability information
  • Fundamental principles
  • Static and dynamic stability criteria for MOUs
  • The inclining experiment, deadweight and their use
  • Use of daily loading calculations
  • Ballast control
  • Example simulated exercises

Duration: 12 hours

Prerequisite:

  • Identification card or passport
  • 2 passport size colored photographs
